Prince’s Trust International’s Vibe Check Programme Launches in Ghana

1st April 2022

Following a series of pilots in 2020-2021, we are pleased to announce that our first ever digital employability programme, Vibe Check, has now launched in Ghana. The programme, run in partnership with YOTA – Youth Opportunity & Transformation Africa, has already onboarded more than 370 young people following its launch across at number of universities via YOTA’s Youth Business Forums in March 2022.

Vibe Check is an interactive digital personal development programme that creates a safe and supportive space for young people to develop key life and employability skills. First piloted in Barbados, the programme is delivered directly to individuals via a WhatsApp based chatbot, taking young people through a series of modules to build their employability knowledge, communication skills and confidence.

To ensure that the programme meets the specific needs of young people in Ghana, our Design & Digital team worked in collaboration with YOTA to carefully tailor every element of the user-experience, from the way that young people sign-up to the programme, to how they interact with each content module.

Together they worked alongside chatbot developer Coloredcow and WhatsApp business partner Turn.io to make Vibe Check a truly impactful solution for young people looking to make the transition from education to employment in Ghana.

Esther Press, Head of Digital and Design at Prince’s Trust International says, “This latest iteration of our WhatsApp chatbot product is a really exciting step for PTI; by combining a digital tool with an in-person job fair we are able to see how WhatsApp can have an impact on real-world employment outcomes for young people.

It’s been amazing to see the positive responses from the young people so far, and we are looking forward to analysing the qualitative and quantitative data at the end of the programme to ensure we can continue to grow out impact.”

The launch of Vibe Check was met warmly at YOTA’s Youth Business Forum, which invited students from three universities to join for a series of inspirational talks and to test out the Vibe Check programme.

On completion of the programme participants receive an invitation to attend a job fair, where they will have the opportunity to try out their new skills in real life interview situations.

The launch of the Vibe Check programme in Ghana is the latest in a series of new programme delivery in Africa, including the Get Into programme in Nigeria and Enterprise Challenge in Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda. Through this significant expansion in the region, we hope to reach many more young people throughout 2022 and beyond.
