Prince’s Trust International Launches Enterprise Challenge in Nigeria

21st February 2022

January saw the launch of our first ever Enterprise Challenge Programme in Nigeria. Delivered in partnership with Junior Achievement Nigeria, the programme focuses on supporting young people to develop their entrepreneurial skills and business knowledge.

Prince’s Trust International delivered a two-day facilitation and training workshop for our partners Junior Achievement Nigeria, alongside 24 new volunteers who will act as mentors on the programme.

Hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, the workshop included interactive activities, ‘trainer of the trainer’ sessions, an orientation session on our Enterprise Challenge business simulation game, as well as providing the mentors with the skills they need to deliver the programme.

Alongside supporting partners, the Prince’s Trust International team in Nigeria worked hand in hand with Junior Achievement Nigeria providing capacity building sessions, further strengthening the role that both the delivery partner and the volunteer mentors can fulfil in the field ultimately increasing the sustainability of the programme.

Grace Mccatty, our Programme Manager for Africa played a key role in implementing this training. She said:,

“It was fantastic to spend two days with the team at Junior Achievement Nigeria and the new Enterprise Challenge mentors in Lagos. Our Enterprise Challenge programme is flexible and accessible to work across the world regardless of where young people live, enabling us to reach a diverse mix of individuals, and providing them with the opportunity to learn about becoming entrepreneur.

I am excited to see this programme launch for the first time in Nigeria, and I am looking forward to hearing all about the journeys of the young people as we hope to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.”

The mentors will now begin delivery of the programme to over 120 young people, providing them with the opportunity to increase their knowledge of corporate ethical strategies and basic business concepts. The mentors will support young people to experience a realistic business scenario where they produce, develop and market a new product via the unique business simulation game. The young people will also be provided with the opportunity to develop their own business idea, usually an innovative solution to a modern societal, environmental, or economic problem.

The Enterprise Challenge programmes marks the first ever programme Prince’s Trust International has delivered in Nigeria, highlighting the start of our work in the country.
