A message from our Founder & President HRH The Prince of Wales
We are delighted to share a message from our founder and president, HRH The Prince of Wales on the issue of global youth unemployment in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The message comes after reports from the International Labour Organization in May that 1 in 6 young people are now out of work globally due the effects of COVID-19.
Prince’s Trust International was launched in 2015 as the international arm of The Prince’s Trust, the UK’s leading youth charity. The international trust works with local partners in 13 countries across the world – Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados; Greece, Malta, Serbia; Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda; India, Pakistan, Malaysia and Jordan, delivering education, employability and enterprise programmes.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Prince’s Trust International has been working with their local partners to continue to support young people through digital methods such as video conferencing, and has made rapid investment in tools for digital delivery to reach the hardest hit young people.
In the video, HRH The Prince of Wales’s message says:
“Providing opportunities for disadvantaged young people drives the work of my Trust and, since I launched my International Trust in 2015, it has enabled growing numbers of young people to build their futures across the Commonwealth and beyond, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to encourage self-esteem, to re-engage with education, start businesses and develop careers.”
“Now, with increasing urgency, we need to do more to help young people through and beyond this global crisis.”
