Employment

According to the International Labour Organisation, more than one fifth of young people worldwide are not in employment, education or training, and more than three quarters of young workers are employed in the informal sectors.

Many young people find themselves locked out of the job market due to “a lack of experience and relevant skills”. Our programmes seek to directly address this.

Get Into Programme

The Get Into Programme is a unique employability scheme run in partnership between a youth/training organisation and leading employers worldwide. The programme helps to break down the barriers between unemployed young people and employers by providing young people with intensive employability skills training (teamwork, problem solving, responsibility, communication), before moving into sector specific / vocational skills training and a period of job shadowing, so young people can gain the real world experience they need to move into sustainable employment.

Employers have the opportunity to interact with young people throughout the programme, and historically have said this is a much better recruitment tool than a 30 minute interview. And for the young people, the work shadowing period allows them to learn about whether the job is right for them, put their learning into practice, make friends and feel confident in the workplace. Crucially, work shadowing allows young people to see the career opportunities within the sector, so they can think beyond getting their first job to getting their perfect job.

The programme is two to eight weeks long, and supports young people aged 16 – 30 * who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) and are looking for employment. It is suitable for those who are ready for work, but may lack vocational skills or practical experience

* age criteria depends on country and sector

The Get Hired Programme

Get Hired is a programme designed for young people ready to enter the job market, but who need a small amount of training. Pitched as a one to three day interactive event, it matches young people with employers who have jobs available and gives the young people the an opportunity to have live interviews with a number of different potential employers.

More than just a job fair, the event empowers the young people with confidence and skills through activities and interview practice with corporate volunteers before moving into real interviews with employers. This face-to-face event allows young people to present all the great assets they can bring to the workplace, so employers can see beyond the CV.
